There was this “Cin Ali” series that we all learnt the basic sentences from.

Such as:

Ali gel. = Ali come. (Come here Ali).

(Subject) (Verb)

Ali top-u at. = Ali ball-the throw. (Throw the ball Ali).

(Subject) (Noun) (Verb)

***

Now let’s see some more of the very basic sentences that are used in everyday Turkish:

Sen lütfen gel.

You please come. (Please come here)

O okul-a git-ti.

S/He school-the go-did. (S/He went to the school).

Ben araba-ya bin-di-m.

I car-the get in-did-me. (I got in the car)

Biz yemek ye-di-k.

We food eat-did-us. (We ate food)

If you have noticed, the word “yemek” (food) comes from the verb “ye” which means eat and the suffix “mek”.

***

The suffix “mek” also can make every verb into a noun that describes the action by the verb (almost like the -ing):

İç-mek (Drink-ing)

Gel-mek (Come-ing)

Git-mek (Go-ing)

Et-mek (Do-ing)

Now let’s look at the grammatical persons in Tiny Step 5. Then we’ll combine them with the personal suffixes to the verbs in the Tiny Step 6.
